John Twist

John Twist is the MG guru behind Michigan’s University Motors who has helped countless people maintain, restore, and understand their MGs. He has run a successful shop, has an informative Youtube video series, and now is an international speaker.

John purchased his first MG in 1968.  He began working on MGs outside his college dorm in 1971. He petitioned for a job at the original University Motors and moved to London at the age of 23. After a year, he returned to Michigan and opened his own University Motors in 1975. Over a period of 50 years, John’s business worked on MGs from nearly every state and province.  He sponsored his Summer Parties which several times drew 550 MGs on the field.  John became the founding chairman of the North American MGB Register at a meeting in his shop in 1990. He also co-founded the British Motor Trade Association and the West Michigan MG Club. John’s nearly 400 videos on YouTube offer technical support for MG owners throughout the world. Several thousand MG owners have attended technical seminars at his and other shops throughout the U.S. and Canada, and in England. His “rolling tech” sessions are a fixture at MG events throughout the country.  He drives a 1962 MGA 1600 MKII Deluxe that he’s owned since 1976. John joined NAMGAR early on; his membership number is 321.

John was inducted into the British Sports Car Hall of Fame on Friday, June 2nd, 2017. He’ll be on site to help people with their MGA issues with his very popular Rolling Tech Session format. More info here:
